Transition and Travel

Why is it important to get out and be in the wilderness? I believe Teddy Roosevelt defined it best as, “no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness, that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy, and its charm.” There is just something about being in Nature that is necessary for all individuals. I have made it a necessity, as a quiet pact with my Wife to seek out national parks and find that which only the wilderness can provide. There are many definitions of freedom that exist to each individual but to me, the physical embodiment lies in our national parks.

I enjoy being outside and experiencing life. As an able-bodied individual, I believe that true escape is best found outside of a fictional book or Netflix series.

I am not a perfect individual by all means. I do enjoy living in the city near the nightlife. I find tranquility in hitting the gym or hanging out with Student Veterans on my campus. But I’m looking forward to the next road trip. One that must occur at least twice a semester.

Have you been to all of the National or State Parks near you?
